Nissan Leaf: Petrol Bowsers

by The Glue Society

Petrol Bowsers consisted of an interactive art installation and exhibition produced for WhybinTBWA Melbourne to launch the first purpose-built 100% electric car in Australia, the Nissan LEAF. Will O'Rourke was engaged to execute the core idea that with the launch of this electric car, petrol bowsers are no longer needed. The Glue Society was commissioned to challenge the public's perception of petrol bowers, and conceptualised and repurposed over 40 petrol bowsers to new functions. The resulting installations included a giant water fountain, London phone box, Pac-Man machine, bookshelf, Zoltar fortune teller, jukebox, and gumball machine, amongst a large array of others. The project brought together a 20-person strong production team over a 4-week period to construct, craft, and transport the bowsers to outdoor exhibitions at Sydney's Custom House and Melbourne's Federation Square.
